Worldly Possesions
A girl pockets change
from the corner store,
boxed blues, wrapped grays,
zippered colours,
the canvas forever out of range.

I saw a girl buy a rainbow,
she put a pot of gold at the end,
we remind ourselves of leprechauns,
and soap sail boats.

I saw a girl write snow,
she left paces around my house,
letters so big heaven can't read her woe,
the leaves fall, filling in her sorrow.

I saw a boy sing love,
unrequited, unguided,
quiet, silent,
he weeps, the world sleeps,
he sings love, he sings joy.

I saw a boy bring fall and layaway winter,
spring was so far, summer caused splinters.

I saw a mother buy a child,
I saw a father sell his daughter.

The change hasn't taken place yet,
the sun will run with moon,
rain will stop, clouds clear...no more fear.
